Pueblo Teachers (& other K-12 Employees): Options to Get Union Money Back End Sept. 15

Have you driven through Pueblo lately? Thanks to National Employee Freedom Week, you may have seen this new billboard appear:

(It’s not just Pueblo. Many other Colorado school districts have brief opt-out windows for current members, and a few others — Colorado Springs 11, Alamosa, South Conejos — also have annual opt-out windows for non-members. Check out revocation information for Teachers and for Classified Employees)

Are you a teacher or other employee in either Pueblo City Schools or Pueblo County Schools (District 70)? If so, you have a very limited time frame to exercise your membership options. Whether or not you have ever chosen to join a union, you will pay full union dues or “dues equivalency” unless you notify the union by September 15. And while none of the union offices make exercising your options terribly easy, we try to make it as easy as possible:

PUEBLO CITY SCHOOLS (Pueblo 60)

1. Teachers (Pueblo Education Association): MEMBERS and NON-MEMBERS who wish to opt out of more than $700 in 2014-15 dues/fees must either request revocation forms from the PEA office between SEPT 1 and SEPT 15 OR send an opt-out request “by certified mail with return receipt requested” to the PEA office, and a copy to the district payroll office, to be received between AUG 25 and SEPT 15
